The Coronavirus outbreak has changed how we live our daily lives. From working from home for weeks together, with kids at home attending online classes, with toddlers to attend to with no helpers support at home and much more has become the new normal.

This sudden change, in the absence of things we have come to rely upon, is bound to cause increased stress and anxiety. In such a scenario it is pertinent that we take adequate measures for self- care so as to allay the anxiety levels and continue to be productive in our work.

Did you know a good sleep can boost your productivity levels?

Read more to understand the need and importance of good sleep especially during this trying time, when we all need to be at our peak immunity levels to take of ourselves and our loved ones.

Without sufficient sleep, your body makes fewer cytokines, a type of protein that targets infection and inflammation, effectively creating an immune response. Cytokines are both produced and released during sleep, causing a double whammy if you skimp on shut-eye.  Chronic sleep loss even makes the flu vaccine less effective by reducing your body’s ability to respond.1

When we sleep well, we wake up refreshed, alert, and able to put in a solid day ’s work. Researchers at Harvard Medical School also report that sleep is essential for the learning process, ² strengthening the neural connections in our brains that help us to process new information.

Just like our schedules for eating, working and exercising, it's important to sustain a regular sleep routine. For most people, between seven to eight hours a night is sufficient. Going to bed and waking up at a similar time each day can help maintain a sense of normality, and help you follow through with plans.

Sleep deprivation is no fun, and when you’re not sleeping properly, it can affect your work, your health, and your relationships.

We encourage you to make your sleep and health a priority especially under the extraordinary time we are in.
